In most medical negligence cases, you usually have three years to start a claim.
This may run from the date the negligence occurred or from the date you first became aware that your injury may have been caused by negligent care.
There are exceptions. For children, the time limit usually does not start until they turn 18, which means they generally have until their 21st birthday to start a claim. Different rules can also apply where a person lacks capacity to manage their own affairs.
Because time limits can be complex, it is important to seek advice as early as possible.
