Landlords sometimes argue that the tenant caused or contributed to the disrepair. This does not automatically mean you do not have a claim. The issue will depend on the evidence.

Photographs, inspection reports, repair records, contractor notes, communication history and expert evidence can all help establish what caused the problem. If a landlord is unfairly blaming you or refusing to investigate properly, it is worth getting advice before accepting their position.
